7 ways to lower the cost of your Motorcycle Insurance
Motorcycle insurance rates can vary a lot. Find out what level of coverage you need before paying out too much...
- Before committing to pay a large premium, do your sums. Insurance is easily overlooked but it's usually the second largest cost associated with buying a bike. Remember that you'll be paying that premium every year you own the bike.
- If you just want a cheap bike, collision and comprehensive coverage is optional. This pays to repair or replace a crashed motorcycle and can account for as much as two-thirds of the premium, depending on the age and model of the bike.
- If you have a comprehensive health insurance policy that will cover motorcycle accidents, you can do without the additional medical coverage on the motorbike policy.
- There's also a coverage category unique to motorcycles - guest passenger. Automobile policies routinely cover occupants other than the driver, but not all motorcycle policies do. If you're willing to commit to never carrying a passenger on your motorcycle, you can save a few more dollars.
- You can reduce your premium a bit further by selecting a high deductible for the coverage you decide you need.
- Many people buying motorcycle insurance repeatedly under-insure in two areas: uninsured motorist and medical liability coverage for the person or people injured when the crash is your fault. Make sure you're adequately protected.
- Remember to shop around and compare quotes!
