Credit Cards-how to pay off your credit card debt
Managing your credit card debt can be a difficult task and it is important that you remain in control of it. Read on for some tips on how to pay off your credit cards.
- Prepare a good budget and work out how much you can afford to pay each month. Remember the most important thing about having a budget is that you stick to it!
- Avoid using your credit card for unnecessary expenses. If you can stop all spending on your credit card until the balance is down to a reasonable level.
- Pay more than the minimum amount required. If you continually make the minimum payment then the balance will not reduce and your debt will just keep on growing. Paying more will result in your balance falling more quickly.
- Consider debt consolidation. If you have a number of cards with outstanding debt on them then it may be worthwhile consolidating all debt into one loan with a lower interest rate.
- Try and negotiate a lower interest rate with your credit card provider. If you are genuinely struggling to make repayments then your credit card company may be willing to offer you a better deal with a low interest rate.
- Use any savings or investments you may have on paying off your debt. Remember that you are being charged interest on your debt so the sooner you pay it off the better.

Hi Rhonda, if you are a homeowner you shouldn't have any problem getting a loan for $4000. It is generally harder to get an unsecured loan once you are retired - but because you have a regular pension you may be eligible. Call into your bank for free advice.
