Greenslip: cost comparison
Greenslip insurance is compulsory in Australia, providing all drivers with third party cover. Prices do vary, so here we provide cost comparison information.
Shopping around
While Greenslip insurance is a universal form of cover, how much it’ll actually cost you will vary considerably. If you want the best deal, you should dedicate some time to comparing the different deals that are on offer.
Accessibility
One issue with price comparisons is that while most insurers will offer greenslip insurance or basic quotes online, others don’t. Some greenslip insurers can only be contacted during office hours.
Other features
As well as basic cover, it’s worth considering other options. Some insurers will offer ‘driver at fault’ cover. (Under the Green Slip scheme, the driver at fault in an accident is covered to a lesser extent than others involved in the accident – unless severely injured).
Comparisons
By far the most streamlined way to begin comparing is to go online, referring to the service run by the Motor Accident Authority known as the Green Slip Calculator. This is available by checking out the web page at http://prices.maa.nsw.gov.au/index.html. Simply type in the details of the vehicle you wish to cover, and the tool will provide quotes from several insurers.
Examples
To give you an idea of the type of information gleaned from these comparisons, here’s an overview:-
- GIO– driver cover plus provided with some greenslips. Maximum benefit $300,000.
- NRMA – at-fault driver cover provided with some greenslips. Maximum benefit $250,000.
There are many more options, with fuller information. Navigate to the insurer’s website for further inquiries.
